Greetings to any travellers who find themselves stopping through my little piece of the web.

This is my first blog and it is an experimental toe dipped into online media. It will function as an evolving portfolio of my work as well as a space for commenting on media.

I am going to try thread a path between my interests and what I should be covering. And have a little fun too.

I moved to the city at the beginning of this year, the largest city in SA: good old, stink mold, Johannesburg. I have lived for most of my life in the Eastern Cape. A province which may be the most poverty stricken in the country, but is also one of the most beautiful.

I have never considered myself a yokel but adjusting to to Johannesburg (or Jozi as it also known) has been an uphill battle. The land the city is built on has been mined at for over a century and it has embedded itself into the city. A frantic scrabbling: dig dig dig. This is a place which is always in a rush.

But, you get used to it after a while.

I am currently finishing working as an intern at Agence Franse-Presse, the international news wire agency. I have been here since February 2008 and have gained invaluable experience in the field of news journalism. The past few months have taken me from press conferences with Nelson Mandela and Jacob Zuma to the streets of the townships during the recent xenophobic violence that exploded in Gauteng and then around the rest of the country. It has been a fascinating journey that has helped me qualify what I want to do next.

I will be leaving AFP soon (at the end of July) and am grateful to all of the wonderful and experienced journalists I have worked with. I feel ready for whatever comes next.

There are a hundred million stories just waiting outside. Jozi really has a little of everything, and a lot of stress.

I want to try make this blog a mixture of reviews, current issues and also all that great random stuff that makes life interesting.
